Lighting rig collapses on fans during Max Dean DJ set, injuring 15 people

Around 15 people have been injured following a lighting rig falling into the crowd during a DJ set from Max Dean.

The incident took place on Sunday, March 1 at a nightclub in Buenos Aires, Argentina. British DJ Max Dean was performing at the Archi Club with around 700 people in attendance and, at around 5am, a large lighting rig fell into the crowd.

In footage shared online, the lighting rig is seen collapsing into the VIP area of the club, situated behind the DJ booth.

It fell onto attendees from overhead, and led to some having to head to hospital after being knocked to the floor.

According to Need To Know, 15 people were injured and six were taken to hospital for their injuries. The outlet also claims that numerous ambulances, firefighters and police officers were called to the scene.

Two other attendees made their own way to a local hospital, as per reports, and all of which were aged between 25 and 49.

MixMag reports that while two of those hit by the lighting rig suffered “traumatic brain injuries”, all of those who were taken to hospital have since been discharged.

The DJ on the night was performing with his back to the area where the rig fell, and continued the set as he was unaware of the incident. The event was halted and the venue was evacuated shortly afterwards.

“I’m deeply saddened to learn that some people were injured following the stage collapse at the event in Argentina. I was not made aware of the situation immediately as it took place behind me,” he told MixMag.

“As soon as I was [made aware], the music was turned off and the venue was evacuated. My thoughts are with everyone affected. I sincerely hope those who were hurt make a full and speedy recovery,” he added. “The safety of fans, crew, and everyone involved is always the top priority, and I am staying closely informed as more details become clear.”

Need To Know reported that the lighting rig was installed just hours before the event was scheduled to go ahead, but this has not yet been confirmed by venue operators.

Archi Club has not yet shared a statement about the incident at Max Dean’s set, and has reportedly been closed temporarily for investigation. NME has reached out for comment.
